Debunking Employer Perceptions of Autistic Individuals

An Autism2Work Event

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are over five million adults in the U.S. with autism spectrum disorder. Studies estimate that a staggering 50–75% are either unemployed or underemployed. Although this untapped talent pool brings a unique set of skills to the table, employers may be hesitant to hire. There are many misconceptions that employers may face while considering adding neurodivergent talent in their workforce. The most common concerns include:

  • Inadequate communication skills
  • Low productivity
  • Whether they would be a good fit into their organization’s culture
  • Time and support needed to bring in individuals on the spectrum

As organizations implement successful neurodiversity programs and see the benefits first-hand, these stigmas become obsolete.

How can we work together to debunk these myths once and for all?

Join us as our panelists expose the common misconceptions of hiring neurodivergent talent and share the exceptional value they bring to a workplace.
