Embrace AI in 2025: Education, transportation, and county government make strides
How AI is changing the landscape of the public sector
Though not part of the top 10 most globally searched terms for 2024, artificial intelligence (AI) was still a top-of-mind conversation for organizational leaders. Whether IT and technology decision-makers weighed the pros and cons of where AI would be most effective in their ecosystems, a state superintendent struck the right balance of AI education and use, or a major transportation authority factoring AI into their overall automation and digital transformation story, AI was front and center as a strategy consideration.
Throughout 2024, CAI partnered with multiple organizations and state agencies to share insights and help cast a vision for AI in the public sector. As we cross the threshold into 2025, organizations begin executing their plans. Having a handful of resources on how AI can help streamline and improve efficiency for business processes and functions will be a valuable asset. Learn from each experience as you consider AI for your organization's digital evolution.
Three inclusive AI strategies for higher education
Educators and administrators have been slow to adopt AI. According to a survey by Inside Higher Ed, only 1 in 5 presidents said their college or university has published a policy governing the use of AI, including in teaching and research.1
There’s no denying that new technologies come with complexities and a steep learning curve—AI is no exception. Resistance to AI adoption over concerns for privacy, cybersecurity, and trust is valid, and any technology of this magnitude must be met with caution. But, avoiding an inevitable shift in the way we learn and work leaves students and staff unprepared for the ways AI has already integrated into the daily lives of working professionals.
How can the higher education community embrace this change while also ensuring proper safeguards and education on AI ethics are upheld? Review 3 strategies any institution can employ to ensure all are equipped with the right tools needed to prosper in the age of AI.
A major transportation authority modernizes with AI in invoice processing
A California transportation authority expressed a desire to use automation and AI as a major pillar of its digital transformation strategy. This transportation authority is the planning commission responsible for transit projects, programs, and services that impact residents, as well as commuters and tourists in the county. Bus and rail lines, rideshares, environmental programs, active transportation, express lanes, and freeways all fall under their purview.
CAI helped the transportation authority to identify accounts payable as the most valuable and beneficial candidate for automation and AI. This time-consuming and very manual process required one dedicated resource, a backup associate for peak times, and a significant amount of paper and ink just to keep the invoice process moving forward.
Learn how CAI was able to design and develop an innovative, modern solution to perform invoice management activities, with the AI model performing with 95% accuracy overall. This case study illustrates how organizational optimization was achieved through decreased processing times and staff hours saved with the help of automation and AI.
